Petit Format in Black
Petit Format in Black transfers the principles of Black in Motion into a reduced and concentrated scale, where the limits of the format bring action and perception into closer relation. The smaller field removes any sense of extension and allows each gesture to appear without dispersion within a confined space.
The fast-setting plaster compresses time even further, bringing action and material into immediate proximity. What occurs does not unfold gradually, but takes place within a condensed duration shaped by the material itself. This condition draws the work toward a state in which it settles without revision.
Within this scale, the slightest variation becomes decisive. Differences in pressure, direction and timing are no longer part of a larger composition but define the work entirely. The frame does not simply contain the surface; it establishes the conditions in which it can be perceived, focusing attention and isolating the relation between surface, light and viewer.
Black acts as a condition of reduction. It condenses the visual field and directs perception toward minimal differences that unfold through sustained attention. The viewer is drawn into a mode of looking that corresponds to the process of its formation, where seeing becomes part of the same field in which the work takes place.
