In Focus: Sculpture Accent

Sculpture Accent extends the practice into space, where material, light and perception form a continuous field of relations. The works are built in black pigmented plaster, applied gesture by gesture in a structured rhythm, where each intervention remains visible as part of a sequential process, akin to a score unfolding in time.

Two planes are placed in deliberate relation, forming a spatial structure that guides the eye through the work. Like a system of lines, the surface directs perception in a measured way, where movement across the work becomes a form of reading. The structure is not static but activates attention, shifting with position and duration of looking.

Polished brass introduces a second condition of light. It reflects the surrounding space while simultaneously casting light back onto the black surface. In this interaction, the black begins to shift, revealing warm reflections that move between depth and surface. The material no longer appears fixed; it changes as light circulates through it, and perception adjusts continuously.

The room becomes part of this system. It is reflected, refracted and reinserted into the work, so that space is not background but an active component of what is seen. Light, surface and environment remain in constant exchange.

Sculpture Accent exists in this state of guided perception, where the structure leads the eye and time is experienced tact by tact through the material.

Realized in multiple scales and exhibited in Berlin, Brussels, and Switzerland, Sculpture Accent exists exclusively as a commissioned work. For inquiries regarding scale, spatial adaptation, or new realizations, including Kunst am Bau – projects, we welcome direct engagement with us.
